When the amplifiers start screaming and the first chorus cuts through the dark room like a blindingly bright spotlight, one thing becomes immediately clear, SERGEANT STEEL are not simply returning with a new album, they are making a statement. With “Golden Absolution”, the Upper Austrian Hard Rock institution from Linz presents their most diverse and at the same time most mature work to date. Ten songs full of big melodies, gripping guitar riffs and that irresistible energy that does not romanticize Hard and Classic Rock as nostalgia but catapults it straight into the here and now.
Since their formation in 2007, SERGEANT STEEL have established themselves as a firm fixture of the Austrian Hard Rock scene. “Golden Absolution” brings together everything the band stands for. Arena-ready hooks, driving grooves, sparkling guitar work and an emotional directness and depth that immediately ignite. Anyone who loves the golden era of Rock between 1975 and 1985 will find here not merely an echo of days gone by, but an album that rekindles the spirit of that era with modern power. Lyrically, the new album looks at the major fault lines of life like relationships, separation, loss, inner struggles and the search for one’s own path. At the same time, the band also turns its gaze outward, towards social tensions, inequalities and a world that is becoming ever louder, faster and more contradictory. Yet SERGEANT STEEL never lose sight of the song. Every message is carried by a hookline, every thought gets a riff, and every shadow gets a chorus that demands the stage, the lights and an audience.
“Golden Absolution” gains particular weight from the way it was created. For the first time in SERGEANT STEEL’s history, the basic tracks were recorded live in the studio. This approach gives the album a particularly dynamic, organic and coherent foundation. The natural interaction between the musicians creates an energy that runs through the entire album and supports the extensive production in an impressive way. The mix was handled by guitarists Jack Power and Chuck Boom themselves, while one of Europe’s most renowned mastering specialists, Jens Bogren, was brought on board for the final mastering. At the Swedish “Fascination Street Studios”, the album received its final sonic polish and presents itself as powerful, transparent and contemporary.
“Golden Absolution” is an album for everyone who understands Hard Rock not as a retro exercise, but as a way of life.
